Postloft Email Backup pulls a complete copy of a mailbox down to your own disk. It connects to any IMAP account and reads the local stores desktop mail clients keep, capturing messages, attachments, folder structure, read state and flags rather than a flat dump of text.
The first run copies everything; later runs are incremental, fetching only what has arrived since. Multiple accounts can be scheduled independently, which makes it practical to keep personal and work mail archived on the same machine without one waiting on the other.
Archived mail stays usable. A local index searches across every account at once by sender, subject, date range, attachment name or message body, with results opening in a reader that renders the original message. Anything you find can be exported to standard mailbox and message formats, so the archive can be moved into another client or handed over as evidence without a conversion step.
